About us Archive news stories School children support homeless charity at Christmas Pupils from a local Primary School have chosen to collect items for Companions this Christmas, after having workshops from Emmaus South Wales educating them about homelessness. The pupils from Year 3 and 4 at Maes Yr Haul Primary School were keen to support Emmaus after learning that the Community home, where formerly homeless individuals live is only a ten minute walk away from their school. Over the past few weeks, the children have been collecting essential items such as toiletries, warm hats, gloves, scarfs and other items, so Companions had some little gifts to open on Christmas day. Georgia, our Marketing Coordinator went to collect the items with Tammy, a Companion. The children enjoyed meeting Tammy and being able to ask questions about her experience of homelessness and what it's like being an Emmaus Companion. The two year groups collected an amazing thirty shoe boxes full of items for Companions, weighing a collective 86kg! The children designed their own wrapping paper and wrapped all of the boxes themselves. They also made Christmas cards for Companions too. Emmaus South Wales would like to thank staff, pupils and parents from Maes yr Haul Primary School collecting items for Companions this Christmas. We look forward to working alongside you in the New Year.
