About us Archive news stories Emmaus Superstore receives lighting revamp Emmaus South Wales' largest shop, The Superstore has had new energy efficient lighting fitted this week, thanks to an interest free loan from The Carbon Trust. The Carbon Trust is an independent, expert partner of leading organisations around the world, helping them contribute to and benefit from a more sustainable future through carbon reduction, resource efficiency strategies and commercialising low carbon technologies. With the support of Renew Wales, an organisation that tackles the causes and impacts of climate change Emmaus South Wales have been able to measure its organisational footprint and find areas where carbon and energy costs can be reduced. By working alongside a Renew Wales mentor we were able to identify areas for improvement and find energy efficient solutions. It was decided that the lighting in the Superstore would be the initial area of focus, due to it being the largest shop at a vast 300m2. The lighting that was previously fitted in the Superstore didn't give off enough light, especially in the winter months. The bulbs were also halogen bulbs, making them very expensive to run. Now, new low-energy LED lights have been fitted by Atega Ltd that not only give off a lovely bright light, but will hopefully also reduce lighting running costs by 50%.
